Katayoun Copeland is a Bryn Mawr resident seeking re-election as the District Attorney of Delaware County. Kat has served as the District Attorney since taking over for Jack Whelan after his election to the Court of Common Pleas in 2017. Kat obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with minors in French and History from Bryn Mawr College, and earned her Juris Doctor from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law. Previously, Kat served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. While there, she was a member of the Narcotics and Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Trask Force, and tried numerous cases involving gang-related offenses, large-scale RICO conspiracies, attempted murder, and various other crimes. She also initiated the inaugural Drug Court Program for the PA’s Eastern District to help non-violent drug offenders successfully complete supervised release after incarceration. Kat is a dedicated member of law enforcement, having been an instructor at the Delaware County Municipal Police Academy, where she helped to develop the curriculum that is still used today. Additionally, Kat is an instructor at the Pennsylvania State Police’s “Top Gun” school, is a member of the Delaware County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations, and has received numerous awards from law enforcement agencies at the local, state, and federal levels.
