PRESS RELEASE: Democratic DA Refuses To Condemn Low & No Cash Bail; Days Later, Repeat Violent Offender Released On Bail For Second Time

Upper Chichester, PA - Beth Stefanide, candidate for Delaware County District Attorney, issued the following statement:

“Another violent offender in Delco has been released on bail, yet again, after two attempted strangulations - in one of which he attacked a minor. This comes days after DA Stollsteimer refused to condemn the reckless low-to-no cash bail systems that our county has begun to implement since he took office.

Let me be clear: low-to-no cash bail hurts our communities. Out-of-the-mainstream, unpopular anti-incarceration policies are putting our families and businesses at risk and have directly contributed to the 25% increase in crime we have witnessed over the last year in Delco.

In the past few months alone we have seen a number of crimes committed by repeat offenders who were released with low-to-no bail, including:

  1. A man who was released on bail eleven times before committing his twelfth DUI in July, for which he posted bail the same day.

  2. A man who robbed a Wawa at gunpoint whose bail was set at a mere $50,000 – a case in which the victim was a minor.

  3. A convicted felon who assaulted his ex-girlfriend, son, and grandmother, and was released after posting just 10% of $20,000 bail. He is still at large and is charged with a number of offenses, including felony possession of a firearm.

Public safety is the public good upon which all others rest. We must start protecting the things we hold most dear once again. On November 7th, vote like public safety depends on it – because it does. Make out-of-touch and failed policies like low and no-cash bail a thing of the past.”
