Republican DA candidate takes Stollsteimer to task over rising crime

“Beth Stefanide, the GOP candidate running for Delaware County district attorney, says crime is up 25% throughout the county, largely in part due to policies of the incumbent, District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer, firing her first major salvo of the election season, which ends with the election on Nov. 7.

The 54-year-old married mother of three said murders in Upper Darby Township, the county’s most populous municipality, increased from two in 2019 to more than 20 in 2021.

Referring to the Pennsylvania Uniform Crime Report, Stefanide said, “It is reporting that from 2021 to 2022 crime is up in Delaware County 25%. It’s astounding.”

She said murder increased 13.2% across the county in that time period, even petty theft saw a 39.5% hike and motor vehicle thefts increased 19.3%.

“Manslaughter is up 900 percent,” she said.

In 2021, the state Uniform Crime Report recorded one manslaughter by negligence in Delaware County. Last year, it registered 10.”
